Polaroid instant cameras are a series of instant film cameras developed by the Polaroid Corporation, founded by Edwin Land in 1937. The system of belief behind these cameras was to make photography easy and fun, and give rise to an instant result that would grant people to see the photographs they’ve developed in seconds, not days later after the development process. Polaroid instant cameras applied three types of film over the years, including roll film, which used two rolls of film that performed dissimilar elements of the development process, pack film, which involved physically removing the film after each shot and removing a layer of the film by hand to finish the development process, and integral film, which is the iconic white bordered, ‘hands off’ self manufacturing film most persons associate with a Polaroid camera. Polaroid Instant cameras have experienced a resurgence in popularity of late, alongside the growth in popularity of vintage or retro style photography. These cameras are quirky widgets that formulate an interesting and very distinctive style of print, and may be found in very good condition at very cheap prices. The one precipitation of owning a Polaroid is getting film for the camera, as it may be rather highpriced and hard to track down. This is altering however, with groups such as The Impossible Project creating new instant film for Polaroid cameras for the new generation of Polaroid fans. They are hoping to have merchandise available very soon, but in the meantime you may keep an eye out on eBay or Amazon for cheap bulk packs of film, or inquire at specialist camera and film shops. Polaroid instant cameras are a distinguishable and fun form of photography that is commended for any photographer or photography enthusiast, or even any person who just likes the idea of an instant, quirky and distinctive physical memento of a special moment, in a world that seems overshadowed by the non-physicality of digital photography. That really adds a certain dimension to your photos. Especially if you are photographing more “serious” subjects (i.e., not just family/friends), the polaroid has a way of lightening it up and making your photography look more nonchalant. It also “ages” your film for you, giving the photographs an old, faded feel right from the start.
If you’ve got an old polaroid camera lying around the house, take it out, by a pack of this stuff, and experiment. It’s a lot of fun. 37 of 40 people found the following review helpful. 36 of 41 people found the following review helpful. |
