The Pro Runner 350 AW camera backpack from Lowepro is an special carry bag for your camera equipment. The thick straps and waistband make it comfortable, even when loaded. The huge padded space has ample room for camera, lenses, and accessories, and there is likewise space to carry a laptop, iPod, keys, documents, etc. The backpack actually holds a lot.
The huge compartment has dividers that are held in place with Velcro, which enable you to custommake compartment size for your person gear. These are not cheap little dividers, but well padded with strong Velcro. They must stay in place and protect your instrumentation for a long time. The inside of the main compartment likewise has a lot of littler pockets for flashcards, etc. All the pockets are zippered or Velcroed. If you have very big lenses, they in all likelihood won’t fit, but for a couple of extra lenses, you may design the interior to hold your equipment.
It took me a minute to find the laptop pocket. I might have missed it if I hadn’t read there was a compartment for laptops. The zipper is on the side and the laptop slides in from the side and is held in a well-padded compartment among the camera and the wearer’s back.
The thin outside flap unzips for a little compartment with pockets to hold an iPod, keys, pens, cell phone, and a few documents. You won’t put a lot in here, but it will hold sure items. Then on the very outside, there is a zippered pocket that will hold travel documents or little items for quick retrieval.
One thing I actually like, in particular on days like today when it rained all day, is the built-in All Weather Cover. There’s a little tag at the bottom that gives evidence of where the cover is located. Undo the Velcro, pull the cover out and waterproof your backpack. Very cool! Then you may tuck it back in when not in use.
There’s likewise a hideaway tripod mount with a removable holder. This enables you to secure your tripod to the outside back of your backpack with secure straps. There is a mesh side pocket on one side of the pack. I sort of wish there was one on both sides.
I have not taken the bag on an airplane, but the tag says it is carry-on size and sized for international travel. Although the way a heap of airlines are going, who knows regarding this.
This is an magnificent camera backpack. It will hold your gear securely and keep things organized and safe. Highly recommended.

Virtually a perfective fit By Emanuel Kanal After around one month of using this bag extensively, I may say that I have found it to be almost precisely what I would have designed for myself! I have taken this bag with me on long mercantile flights with assorted connections, in the car for short as well as extended trips, on four seater prop planes for aerial shoots, etc. It always likewise holds my 17″ Macintosh laptop as well, plus two extra batteries for the laptop. I have packed this bag in “default” mode comparatively full, with all the gear I would likely need for a trip for BOTH the laptop as well as the D300, the extra 105 mm Macro Nikkor lens, two lens hoods, the SB800 flash, further and added filters, batteries, etc. Yes, it is of course heavy (by my choice, of course), but the key is that it may and does handle it all well. The camera is very readily accessible (albeit not with the lens hood, which would require my opening the side compartment for access), I have the ease of knowing that I have closely everything on me that I might need for the shoot, and the portability of a very sturdy and well built backpack that fits superbly when completely cinched around the shoulders, chest, and waist. The only reason that I gave it four and not five stars is because try as I might I have not found a way to attach even my smallest tripod (except for the table top version, which is without doubt already in the bag) to the bag to take with me. The cost to step up to the model that accepts the tripod is rather steep, whereas it will have to have been a rather simple addition to a bag of this dimensions to attach a tripod hooking mechanism. Nevertheless, in spite of this drawback, this is the bag that I want with me for 99% of my travels – and which has become not only my #1 camera bag but candidly my #1 (17″) laptop bag as well, now that I may take my laptop and camera instrumentation with me at all times. Great job, Lowepro!

More for users who need space for items in addition to a camera & laptop By Traveler Lowepro Fastpack 350 vs. Lowepro Slingshot 300 AW

Better Than The SlingShot Series By Ryan E. Duncan I purchased the Fastpack 350 as a alternate for my Lowepro SlingShot 200 AW so most of this review will be a comparison amid the two. After owning the SS 200 for around a year, I found that I quickly out grew it and I at last felt that moving up to the SS 300 or SS 350 would not do the trick. The SlingShot series is good if you do not have a lot of the extras like a filter pouch, lens hoods, spare batteries, chargers, etc., but if you have any of that gear a SS plainly does not work out…and forget regarding carrying a book or anything else with a Slingshot.
One other aspect of the Slingshot that I ended up not liking was the single strap sling approach. At basi I thought that was going to be a great feature but it was cumbersome and awkward for me…this Fastpack is much more comfortable to plainly take one arm out of the strap and swing around. That is a more natural approach and works much better in my opinion.
This bag seems to be a better fit for my needs and effortlessly holds my Canon 50d with battery grip, 28-135mm, 10-22mm, and 50mm lens. I even have 1-2 lens spaces open depending on what is mounted and there is still room for more. I may see how this bag will hold a 70-200mm (if I am fortunate sufficient to aquire one).
The top storage area on the Fastpack 350 has a great deal of room for the extras noted above and there is still room for a book and snacks on a trip. The mesh side pocket is nice, but it doesn’t feel that sturdy so I will be curious how it holds up over time. The laptop compartment is very well padded and makes this bag a unfeigned must have travel companion.
As far as the size, I would consider this a big camera backpack, but it is not too big as numerous have suggested. The materials are good, but it does seem that the SlingShot was a bit more refined (i.e. this bag does not have a microfiber cloth attached at the side opening which was a outstanding touch on the SS and the memory card holders on the main compartment flap are not as nice as the SS and there are two less spaces for cards which seems odd for a more prominent bag?) The zippers and clasps are good, but the SS just seems like it was built with better materials.
Also, it always seems as though each Lowepro bag I have purchased (this makes #4) is missing that one thing, but this one has a couple. I am disappointed that there is not an AW cover built in…that must be automatic on a higher end, premium brand product like this. Also, why is there no tripod attachment? Give me those two features and a couple more sliplock affixations and this could be that elusive perfective bag.
All in all this is a good bag and a better substitute than the SlingShot series if you like the side entry and extra storage space.
